I am sure most people are struggling to get this right, following instructions is not an easy task unless u are a good listener and get the best instructor. just imagine you are givem a task and inorder for you to have better results you need to follow the instruction, somewhere somehow you will lose focus and end up doing what you were not suppose to do. this will result to "not following instructions".Being told what to do is not really easy, you need to listen atentively, ask questions, show interest and make sure that you understand what is required from you. after you are clear on what you are suppose to do, make sure that you go through your instructions step by step then following instructions will not be as bad as people think it is. as long as u LISTEN,UNDERSTAND and ASK.
